I want to be Weird 2015.
The documentary is a portrait of concept artist Kitty Von Sometime and four women who participate as she creates the Weird Girls Project. The Weird Girls - “an extraordinary art event for ordinary girls” - is a one day performance, but actresses are not allowed.
From its conception nine years ago by Kitty Von Sometime, The Weird Girls Project has quickly become a national phenomenon in Iceland and every episode is covered by the national TV and print media. Between a pop event and feminist activism, performance art and a goliardic action, the project gives voice and space to woman to freely express themselves in a fabulous and unique carnival.
Women are told to turn up to a mystery location, given a costume and directed in a choreographed and filmed performance piece. The recorded piece sometimes will be for posterity only, sometimes for a music video for a band or dj’s.
Iceland, will be the perfect backdrop for a tale about freedom of expression and extravaganza, interpreted not as an eccentric whim but as the necessity to include in our lives what is usually left out by normality. This documentary will show the unique opportunity being offered to ordinary women of Iceland and the world over by the creation of The Weird Girls Project.
